Demonstration by Alison Cotton

“Everyone is an artist”. Interactive Mixed Media

Alison Cotton is an artist who is constantly asking what this means. Having started out as resident painter at the Alderney Pottery in the ‘80s, she learned to use watercolours to capture the wild beauty of this tiny island and exhibited regularly. Since then she has worked as an illustrator, mural painter and painting tutor, with a 15 year interlude when she ran her own tree surgery business. More recently she has trained as in Inclusive Arts Practitioner, which involves working with groups and individuals who may be disabled or disadvantaged, following the advice of artist Joseph Beuys that “everybody is an artist”.

Demo info:

I will demonstrate making an image using a range of techniques designed to free you up and be enjoyable. There will be an element of risk and experimentation, and I’m hoping that members will try out a few of these techniques with me during the session, to see if we can change the way we look at things. No need to bring any materials, but you can do so if you wish.
